  • The Turkish Van cat was developed as a distinct breed of cat based on the naturally occurring van patterned cats in Turkey.
  • The term Van Pattern was named after the Turkish Van cat and is now used around the world.
  • The Van cat was NOT named after the van pattern.
  • The vanpattern was named after a breed that only came in van patterns andEC - Soyadi's Bolu was uniquely known for the pattern.
  • The van pattern was NOT named after a breed that came in solid, bi-color, tabby or tortoiseshell.
  • A solid white or black cat does not have a van pattern.
  • Turkish Vans in colors other than van pattern were created through intentional introduction of other colors.
